What it does

Run JavaScript code to transform data with the SingleStore Wasm Code Engine

How we built it

A UDF that call QuickJS to evaluate JavaScript, using the quickjs-wasm-rs crates from https://github.com/Shopify/javy/

Challenges we ran into

• not familiar with Rust

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• that it works with relatively little code yet provides more versatility to writing queries

What we learned

• SingleStore
• some Rust
• vscode dev container

What's next for wasm-udf-quickjs-eval

• current implementation qjs-eval takes a single string argument and return a single string argument, but it should be easy to extend it to eg func(json) -> json
• investigate if it's possible speed up with https://github.com/bytecodealliance/wizer (also used in Javy)
• investigate support for other scripting languages
