Inspiration

The inspiration behind WarungChain or WarungPay comes from the realization that many Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia still rely on manual and outdated systems for their daily operations. These traditional warungs, which are the backbone of the local economy, face challenges such as inefficiency, lack of access to financial tools, and limited market insights. By combining blockchain technology with AI and DeFi, we aim to empower these businesses to transition into the digital age while preserving their cultural essence. Our goal is to create an inclusive and sustainable solution that helps MSMEs grow and thrive in the global market.

What it does

WarungChain is a decentralized Point of Sale (PoS) DApp designed to help MSMEs streamline their operations and unlock new opportunities. Key features include:

  • Automated Transactions: Fast, secure, and transparent payments powered by the Algorand Network.
  • AI-Based Market Analysis: Insights into sales trends and inventory management to make smarter business decisions.
  • DeFi Integration: Access to financial tools like microloans, savings, and staking to support business growth, currently platform was try integrate with folk finance.
  • WhatsApp/Telegram Receipts: Automated transaction receipts sent directly to customers' messaging apps.
  • Loyalty Programs: Blockchain-based rewards to incentivize customer retention.

How we built it

We built WarungChain using a combination of cutting-edge technologies, with significant assistance from AI Bolt for frontend development and full-stack integration:

  • Frontend: Designed and generated using AI Bolt, which helped us create a modern and responsive interface that blends the tech-forward identity of blockchain with the cultural aesthetics of traditional Indonesian warungs.
  • Blockchain: Leveraged the Algorand Network for its speed, scalability, and low transaction costs.
  • Smart Contracts: Developed using Solidity to handle automated transactions, loyalty programs, and DeFi integrations.
  • AI Analytics: Integrated machine learning models to provide actionable insights for inventory and market trends.
  • Wallet Integration: Supports Pera Wallet for seamless user experience, with AI Bolt assisting in debugging and optimizing wallet connection logic, currently support Algo crypto for payment method.
  • Backend: Plan will be built with Node.js and integrated with Web3 libraries for blockchain interactions. AI Bolt also helped streamline the full-stack integration process, ensuring smooth communication between the frontend and backend.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Technical Complexity: Integrating multiple technologies (blockchain, AI, DeFi) into a single platform was challenging but rewarding.
  2. User Adoption: Ensuring the solution is simple enough for tech-savvy users and accessible to traditional warung owners with minimal technical knowledge.
  3. Error Debugging: Resolving TypeScript errors related to asynchronous functions during wallet integration.
  4. Design Balance: Combining the modern look of blockchain with the cultural elements of traditional warungs required creative design thinking.

Currently, the warungchain or warungpay update has been equipped with a marketplace & DeFi page to Folk Finance (this is still under development for more detailed integration to folk finance). In the POS feature, the price of the goods listed is the fiat currency commonly used in stalls or shops, but when choosing crypto as a payment method, it will automatically be converted to the total Algo Crypto.
