Inspiration

Every household buys dozens of appliances and electronics—from dishwashers, refrigerators, and smart TVs to headphones and laptops. But when something breaks or stops working, the experience is universally painful: paper receipts are lost, email invoices are buried, warranty deadlines expire unnoticed, and contacting customer support is an endless maze of drafting formal emails and looking up serial numbers.

Inspired by the ambient convenience of Amazon Alexa ("Your Home, Your Love"), we built Alexa Warranty Vault—an intelligent, voice-first home appliance companion that not only tracks warranties and impending expiration dates, but autonomously drafts airtight, professional warranty claim emails the instant an appliance acts up.

What it does

Voice-First Alexa Interaction: Speak directly to Alexa using natural voice commands or text. Alexa responds with natural speech synthesis to look up products, check coverage, and diagnose device issues.
Universal 1-Click Claim Drafting: Whether your dishwasher is leaking, your TV screen is flickering, or your headphones stopped charging, Alexa immediately drafts a formal, structured warranty claim pre-filled with manufacturer details, purchase dates, order IDs, serial numbers, and symptom descriptions.
Dual-Engine Architecture (Online AI & 100% Offline Mode):
- Online Mode: Powered by cutting-edge LLMs (via Groq / OpenRouter) utilizing the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for grounded tool-calling and zero hallucination.
- Offline Edge Mode: A built-in natural language rule engine that works completely offline—requiring zero API keys and zero internet connection with instant response times.
Proactive Expiry Monitoring: A visual dashboard categorized by status badges (Active, Expiring Soon, Expired) with countdowns so users never miss a warranty deadline again. Responsive Glassmorphic UI: Modern, mobile-responsive interface styled with Amazon Alexa's signature dark palette, glowing accents, and smooth segmented sliding controls. --- ## How we built it Frontend: Built with React and Vite, styled with Tailwind CSS, and enhanced with the browser Web Speech API (speech recognition and Alexa-tuned female voice synthesis). Hosted and continuously deployed on Vercel. AI & Agent Service: Developed in Python using FastAPI. It features a dual-router architecture that switches seamlessly between an LLM agent with structured tool-calling and a local regex intent agent. Model Context Protocol (MCP): A dedicated FastMCP server communicating over Streamable HTTP that exposes core tools (log_purchase, check_warranty, expiring_soon, draft_claim) directly to the agent. Database: SQLite with automated date calculation and warranty status resolution. Deployment & Containerization: Multi-service containerized with Docker and deployed on Render with CI/CD linked to GitHub. --- ## Challenges we ran into Grounded Tool Calling with MCP: Ensuring the LLM never invents or hallucinates warranty dates or coverage statuses. We enforced a strict tool-calling loop where every status, date math, and claim draft is derived strictly from database queries via MCP tools. Seamless Dual-Mode Resilience: Designing an architecture where users without an API key or internet access can toggle to Offline mode seamlessly without losing access to core features like claim drafting and natural language lookups. Voice Synthesis Matching Alexa's Tone: Fine-tuning browser speech synthesis across different operating systems (Chrome, Edge, Safari) to achieve a consistent, calm, and articulate Alexa female voice persona. --- ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building a full-stack, end-to-end production application implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for grounded AI agents.
Creating an offline-first fallback that makes the app fully usable even in completely disconnected environments.
Crafting a 1-click warranty claim generator that turns a 30-minute chore into a 5-second voice request.

Advanced prompt engineering techniques for strict boundary enforcement and deterministic tool execution.

What's next for Alexa Warranty Vault

Native Amazon Alexa Skill: Publishing an official Alexa Skill for Echo smart speakers and smart displays with ambient voice notifications when a warranty is within 14 days of expiration. Receipt & Invoice OCR: Integrating multimodal vision models to extract model numbers, serial keys, and warranty periods directly from uploaded paper receipts or PDF invoices. 1-Click Email Dispatch: Direct manufacturer support email integration via Gmail / SES to send claims without leaving the app.
