Inspiration

We’ve all experienced the same problem: a warranty document buried somewhere in our phone, a subscription renewal we forgot about, or a receipt we can’t find when we actually need it. Important purchase information is scattered across emails, PDFs, photos, and paper receipts. We wanted to turn that chaos into one simple, intelligent place.

What it does

Warranty Vault securely stores warranties, subscriptions, and purchase documents in one place. Users can manually enter details or capture documents, extract information using on-device OCR and AI, review the extracted data, and confirm before saving it. The app tracks expiration and renewal dates, sends timely reminders, and provides direct access to official claim or service pages.

How we built it

We built the mobile app with Flutter, backed by FastAPI and Supabase for authentication, database, and secure document storage. Google ML Kit performs on-device OCR, while Gemini helps interpret extracted information into structured warranty and subscription data. RevenueCat handles the Pro subscription layer, and local Android notifications handle reminders. Security is reinforced through Supabase Row Level Security, ensuring users can only access their own data.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part was connecting everything into one reliable end-to-end workflow. OCR had to work on a real Android device, extracted information needed validation before reaching the database, and notifications had to work reliably even when the app was closed. We also had to handle authentication, storage permissions, user isolation, AI failures, and subscription states without compromising the core experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that Warranty Vault became more than just a document-storage app. It can take an unstructured document, extract meaningful information, let the user verify it, securely store it, track important dates, and proactively remind the user when action is needed. We also validated the core workflows on a physical Android device, including OCR, secure storage, notifications, authentication, warranties, and subscriptions.

What we learned

We learned that building an AI application is not just about getting an LLM to produce an answer. Validation, user confirmation, security, error handling, and reliable system integration matter just as much. We also learned the importance of testing the complete journey—from the user's action through the frontend, backend, database, AI processing, and back to the user.

What's next for Warranty Vault

We want to make Warranty Vault evolve from a passive vault into a personal ownership assistant. Future versions could intelligently organize purchases, provide better warranty and subscription insights, improve document understanding, and help users navigate the appropriate support or claim process faster—while keeping the user in control of every important action.
