Inspiration

When an appliance breaks, the search usually covers three places: an e-mail inbox, a downloads folder and a phone's camera roll. A UGREEN AI NAS already holds the last two and indexes the text inside photos. The Starter Kit capability catalog shows that document extraction, photo text search, file copying and text saving can be chained under user approval, which is exactly what this errand needs.

What it does

  • Takes one product, for example "my Northwind dishwasher", and searches the user's document folders and the photo library's recognized text.
  • Reads the purchase details from invoices, order confirmations or receipt photos, with a text recognition fallback for photos.
  • Reads the warranty clause and quotes it with file and page.
  • Answers Covered, Borderline, Expired or Unknown, with the end date and the days left or past.
  • After approval, copies the evidence into a claim folder, saves a claim summary next to it, and can tag the receipt so it is found next time even if the file is renamed.

Nothing is written before the user approves it, and original files are never moved or deleted.

How it was built

The Skill is a parent orchestration Skill, one SKILL.md plus four Markdown references, written to the Uliya Skill Development Standard. Each NAS step is a standard delegate command to one of four registered experts (file-agent, photo-agent, document-agent, knowledge-agent). The instructions use named slots that are filled only from real results of the step before.

Claude (Anthropic), used through Claude Code, did most of the drafting. It read the Starter Kit and the capability catalog, compared three ideas, wrote SKILL.md and the references, and wrote local scripts that re-implement the kit checker rules and count the proposal words.

Challenges

  • The kit's static checker is stricter than its template. Section headings, the capability evidence lines and several security patterns have to match exactly.
  • A single-quoted delegate instruction breaks if a filled value contains an apostrophe, so the Skill defines an escaping rule and the local checker tests for it.
  • Deciding what the Skill must not decide. It quotes exclusions next to the user's description of the fault but never rules on them, and it never presents an end date as exact to the day; that is what the Borderline band is for.

Accomplishments

  • Zero errors and zero warnings against a local re-implementation of the Starter Kit checker.
  • A test plan with a synthetic data set and expected results for every case, ready for the assigned NAS day.

What was learned

  • The photo library's text index turns phone photos of paper receipts into searchable evidence. That is what makes this a NAS Skill rather than a chat prompt.
  • Approval prompts are easier to trust when every write is listed before it happens.

What's next

  • Run the seven test cases on the assigned UGREEN AI NAS and tune the instruction wording.
  • A register mode that lists which warranties end in the next 90 days.
