💡 Inspiration
Every day, we consume global news passively. Geopolitical events, economic shifts, and regional conflicts flash across our screens, but it’s incredibly hard to understand how they all connect. We wanted to solve the critical disconnect between passive news consumption and active geopolitical strategy by taking real-world, live news and turning it into playable news.
🎮 What it does
WARROOM is a live, multiplayer geopolitical command-center simulation. Instead of just reading headlines, users step into the shoes of global leaders. Players join multiplayer lobbies, take command of a nation, and must make high-stakes decisions to maintain global stability. Operators react to live-streamed intelligence, balance their nation's GDP, manage domestic approval ratings, and navigate United Nations council resolutions in real-time. Every single decision impacts the global balance of power.
⚙️ How we built it
We architected WARROOM for massive global scale.
- Frontend: Built with React, Vite, and TypeScript. We used Zustand for complex, real-time state management to handle dozens of concurrent variables (GDP, tension, approval, treasury). The cinematic, cyber-warfare aesthetic was built using Tailwind CSS.
- Backend & Scaling: We deployed our frontend on Vercel for ultra-low-latency edge delivery. To handle the high-throughput demands of a real-time multiplayer simulation, we built our core database architecture on AWS DynamoDB. This serverless scaling ensures that as thousands of state changes happen simultaneously, the simulation never drops a frame.
🚧 Challenges we ran into
Managing the complex state machine of a multiplayer strategy game was incredibly difficult. Ensuring that one player's executive orders properly triggered global consequences (like tension spikes or economic crashes) for other players required strict, flawless database synchronization. Additionally, designing a UI that displays a massive amount of dense, tactical data without overwhelming the user required intense UX iteration and precise CSS layering.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of the seamless, cinematic user interface. It genuinely feels like you are sitting inside a military command center. We also successfully architected a highly scalable AWS backend capable of handling rapid telemetry spikes, proving that our architecture is ready for a million-scale global audience.
🧠 What we learned
We learned how to manage deeply complex, decoupled state structures using Zustand. We also learned how to leverage Vercel Edge Functions and AWS Serverless databases to create real-time multiplayer synchronization without latency bottlenecks.
🚀 What's next for Warroom
We plan to fully integrate our "Prometheus AI" engine.. an AI Chief of Staff that dynamically reads real-world news APIs and generates unique, in-game crises in real-time, blurring the line between reality and simulation even further.
