Inspiration

We noticed that manual inventory checks in large warehouses are prone to error and time-consuming. We wanted to see if the existing Ring infrastructure could be transformed from security cameras into intelligent tracking nodes. Our goal was to bridge the gap between physical security and digital asset management.

What it does

WarehouseWise performs inventory counting by analyzing video feeds from Ring cameras. The system identifies items on shelves and updates a central database with the latest counts. This allows managers to maintain an accurate view of stock levels using existing hardware.

How we built it

We built the core logic using Go and deployed it on amazon-ecs-fargate for scalability. We utilized amazon-sagemaker to host the vision models that process image frames. The integration was handled via fastapi to manage data flow between amazon-ring and the warehousewise backend.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was optimizing the processing of video streams from Ring to avoid high latency. We also struggled initially with mapping the Go-based logic to the specific sagemaker endpoints. Balancing the frequency of updates with compute costs required significant tuning of our logic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully integrating amazon-ring with a custom machine learning pipeline. Seeing real-time inventory counts update on our dashboard was a major milestone for us. The stability of amazon-ecs-fargate handled our multiple concurrent streams flawlessly.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the edge-to-cloud workflow when using Ring devices. We gained deep experience in how to structure Go services for high-performance vision tasks. This project deepened our understanding of how to repurpose IoT beyond traditional security.

What's next for WarehouseWise

We plan to implement predictive analytics to forecast when stock will run out. We also want to add a mobile notification system that alerts staff when discrepancies are detected. Expanding support for multiple Ring camera zones simultaneously is our next technical priority.
