Inspiration
The movement is inspired from games like Pokemon, EarthBound, Mother3, etc. Inspiration for the animation comes from animes and shows alike.
What it does
Although there isn't much to the game play element, I wanted to show my animation to more people since I'm proud of how it came out.
How we built it
I used some tutorials on youtube for basic movement, and playing the cutscenes. The handling of the sprites, animation, diagonal movement, and prevention of the player going out of bounds was all programmed from scratch by me.
Challenges we ran into
A major challenge I ran to was getting the video player working. When I tried to install the module, I was told that I was missing another package, and when I went to install said package, it well tell me I was missing another. This went on and on.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even though there isn't much to this, I proud of how the sprites came out and the animations. All art was made from scratch in the little time frame that I had. I'm also extremely proud of the animation used as it was made by me recently.
What we learned
Pygame in of itself. I don't usually program in Python, let alone Pygame, so this was a huge learning experience all around.
What's next for WAR
I never intended for WAR to be a game. More of a show of sorts. When I first heard of the hackathon, I thought it was going to be more of a CTF instead of a game building competition. After learning of this however, I had the idea to implement the animation I had already made with some gameplay elements.
