War and Peace based word connections

Inspiration

We wanted to focus on NLP and we were thinking of creating a thesaurus but from a specific literary work. We could then compare what words are most associated with others for different authors.

What it does

It finds the top 5 most associated words with every word in "War and Peace" by Tolstoy and creates a dictionary.

How we built it

Using python.

Challenges we ran into

Text cleaning is a lot harder than we expected. We also wanted to connect it to a webpage, but we ran out of time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The Markov chain and the general idea.

What we learned

That NLP is hard.

What's next for War and Peace based word connections

Perfect the algorithm to find synonyms. Also, use a larger sample of data.
