Inspiration

WanderWell is something that we've all needed to use. As frequent travelers, we've found that trying to protect our health on the move can be difficult so we decided to create a platform that makes it easy to educate and protect ourselves from circumstances that may affect us on our journeys.

What it does

Travelers will input information about destination, age, and season of travel into a secure patient portal. This information is completely confidential and taken with the traveler’s consent. Travelers are connected with doctors near their locations and can set up a time to receive a vaccination or consultation. If the patient has insurance, their insurance providers will be notified if the services they receive can be covered. In addition, suppliers are alerted so they can produce and send the appropriate vaccines to hospitals with the most patients who require specific vaccines.

How we built it

We used Microsoft Excel to clean the data and split our dates into day, month and year. We categorized the data into 4 seasons based on their correspoding months. Then we used RStudio to assign variables and created a feature that allows user to input demographics of their arrival season, departure season age group, and destination.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into challenges integrating our framework and combining front end and back end. We wanted to learn a new programming language and took this on as a challenge to use RStudio.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our initial idea because it has the potential to predict disease trends in populations and reduce the transmission of respiratory illnesses, especially between people living in different regions.

What we learned

Being very new to R we ran into some expected challenges but came out with the skillset for a whole new language.
