Malaysia is currently facing a peak in the number of Covid-19 cases. Many businesses are finding it hard to survive in this thriving time, especially the tourism sector, when most countries around the globe are limiting their movements. This has resulted in a significant decline in the tourism sector.

We have looked into the problems of travelling, such as being afraid of going to a crowded area.

So, we thought to ourselves.

"Why not create an app that can provide an information on how overcrowded the area is to the users?"

"Wouldn't the users feel safer if they know there are not much people there?"

Thus, we have came up with the app Wanderer to encourage people to move again by providing more information and online merchandise features where they no longer have to queue up at the gift shop.

What it does

Wanderer is a digital live counter application equipped with an online merchandise feature. We have prepared the application for both user and merchant.

It works with the steps below:

1) Merchant will pass the QR-Code for the customers to log in to their visit.

2) When customers wish to check-in, they can click on the check-in button in the app.

3) The timer will start running. (This is where the visitor can view the remaining visiting time)

4) Customers can look at the merchandise, such as photo frames with their photos on during their visit to purchase the one they like.

5) Upon checking out, they will be given a barcode for the merchandise they have selected.

6) The user will have to show the barcode to the merchant to get the merchandise.

This application comes with features that benefit both parties.

1) Merchant can limit the time for each visit. This will allow more customers to check-in without the risk of the place of getting overcrowded.

2) Merchant can sell the tickets to their customers in their vehicle with the concept of the drive-through. The merchant will have to approach the vehicle one by one to sell the tickets. This will avoid overcrowding at the ticket counter.

1) Tourist feels safer with the given information on the live people counter.

2) Tourist can avoid the long queue by purchasing the merchandise in the application.

How we built it

We built "Wanderer" using Dart language. Besides, we use Firebase for the login and MSSQL for the data.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble coming up with the idea for the application. However, after thorough research, we know what application we should develop.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Able to come up with an application to submit for the APEC Challenge 2021.

What we learned

Throughout the development of this application, we have learned that teamwork is essential, especially when developing an application in a short time.

What's next for Wanderer

We hope that Wanderer can help the tourism sector to rise again.
