Inspiration
As college women, we understand that walking back home after studying or exploring the city late by ourselves may not always be safe, especially in times when ride sharing isn’t in our budget and public transportation isn’t accessible. That’s why we created Wander, an app that connects local college students who are walking to similar destinations.
What it does
After entering in your final destination, you will be brought to the results page, which is filtered by other students in the area that are also looking for walking buddies and curated by a combination of how close they are to you and how close their final destinations are to your final destination. You'll see their profile picture and their rating, but their exact location is undisclosed to protect their privacy. Once you request to walk with someone and they accept your invitation, you’ll then be able to see their exact location and you can them message them to meet at a central location that is convenient to both of you. After your walk, you’ll be able to rate your walking buddy based on their punctuality if they were on time to meet you at the meeting spot, whether they were talkative, and if they were a good walking buddy!
How we built it
We built Wander using objective-c in xCode and Figma to design our product, and used the Google Maps API integration.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge in developing this app was integrating the Google Maps API into our application.
