Inspiration As college students, we noticed how easy it is to overspend on small daily habits — like coffee runs, food delivery, or impulse buys. Saving money often feels boring or stressful, so we wanted to create something fun, social, and motivating. Our inspiration was to turn budgeting into a game, making financial discipline feel more like a daily challenge than a chore.

What it does Wallet Wizard gamifies personal finance by turning everyday savings into challenges you can complete with friends. Each day, users get a fun, achievable challenge — like skipping delivery and cooking at home, brewing coffee instead of buying one, or putting aside $5. Progress is tracked with leaderboards, streaks, and rewards, creating a social and competitive environment around saving money.

We built Wallet Wizard as a mobile-first app using: Frontend: React Native for cross-platform mobile development. Backend: Node.js, API based -Nessie Capital One's API APIs: Integrated financial literacy resources and designed AI-driven challenge generation.

Challenges we ran into Integrating real-time leaderboards and challenge tracking across multiple users. Managing time constraints of the hackathon while trying to include stretch features like AI-driven recommendations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of Building a fully functional prototype of Wallet Wizard within 36 hours. Creating a polished, interactive UI that genuinely feels like a game. Successfully integrating friend-based competition to make saving a shared experience. Pitching the idea as both a social app and a financial literacy tool.

What we learned How to combine behavioral psychology principles with software development to encourage positive financial habits. The importance of user experience design when building apps meant to change behavior. Deepened technical skills in React Native, backend integration, and database design under time pressure.

What's next for Wallet Wizard Expanding the challenge library with AI-personalized suggestions based on spending patterns. Adding bank API integrations (e.g., Plaid) to automate savings tracking. Launching beta testing at our university to gather feedback from real users. Exploring partnerships with financial literacy organizations and student groups.
