🌱 Inspiration
The idea for the Digital Wall of Kindness came from the traditional “Walls of Kindness” seen across cities worldwide — where people hang clothes, food, or essentials for anyone in need. These physical walls are beautiful examples of human compassion, but they’re often limited to specific areas and communities.
Our team wanted to extend that kindness beyond physical boundaries — to make giving and receiving help as easy as a few clicks. We asked ourselves: What if kindness could be digital? What if a single online platform could connect donors and receivers globally? That question became the foundation of our project.
đź’ˇ What We Built
The Digital Wall of Kindness is a web-based platform that digitalizes the act of giving. Users can explore kindness walls on an interactive map, donate or request items, and even arrange pickup or delivery through verified channels. A community feed allows people to share stories, photos, and acts of kindness, spreading positivity and inspiring others.
The project supports two UN Sustainable Development Goals:
Goal 1: No Poverty — by providing access to essential goods and community support.
Goal 2: Zero Hunger — by enabling food sharing and reducing waste.
⚙️ How We Built It
We built the platform using a modern and scalable tech stack:
Frontend: Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Leaflet.js, and Google Maps API for interactive and responsive user interfaces.
Backend: Supabase for database management, authentication, and real-time updates.
We focused on simplicity and accessibility — ensuring anyone, from a donor to a receiver, can use the app easily.
🎓 What We Learned
This project taught us more than just code. We learned how technology can amplify empathy, and how even small design decisions can influence social impact. We also improved our skills in Next.js, real-time database integration, map-based interfaces, and user authentication flows. More importantly, we learned the importance of community-driven technology — building tools for people, with people.
🚧 Challenges We Faced
Building a socially driven platform came with its share of challenges:
Designing a trust system between donors and receivers.
Handling real-time data updates efficiently with Supabase.
Integrating maps and geolocation features with precise accuracy.
Balancing a warm, emotional design with clear and functional UI elements.
Each challenge pushed us to think creatively, collaborate better, and stay motivated — even under hackathon deadlines.
🚀 The Road Ahead
We’re now looking for organizations and individuals who can help charitize this idea — covering the platform’s running costs and helping us scale globally. Our next goals include:
Launching a mobile version
Adding AI-based donation recommendations
Partnering with NGOs and local communities
Expanding accessibility for multiple languages and regions
đź’¬ Conclusion
The Digital Wall of Kindness isn’t just an app — it’s a movement to make giving easier, faster, and boundless. Through this project, we realized that technology has the power not just to connect devices, but to connect hearts. Because when kindness goes digital, everyone can be part of the change.
