Inspiration

Drexel is known for its rigorous academic programs, which often include internships and other work opportunities in addition to regular classes. With a ten-week quarter system, students and professors alike can have a hectic schedule that makes it difficult to find time for exercise. That's why we developed an app that provides a convenient way for Drexel students and faculty to stay active and healthy in their busy lives.

What it does

Walkwise, a new step-tracking app that utilizes Apple's Health App and Calendar to help you achieve your fitness goals. If your daily steps fall below a specified amount, Walkwise schedules a 30-minute exercise event in your Apple Calendar to keep you accountable and motivated.

How we built it

This app was developed using Swift programming language and Xcode Integrated Development Environment. The app utilizes Apple's built-in frameworks, EventKit and HealthKit, to collect data on the user's steps and calendar events.

Challenges we ran into

  • Utilizing Apple's HealthKit and EventKit frameworks
  • Getting Apple Health to accurately return the current number of steps
  • Getting the application to test through our phones ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
  • Getting the app to finally run
  • Completing this in such a short amount of time ## What we learned
  • Learned how to use Apple's HealthKit and EventKit frameworks
  • Learned how registry keys worked in Xcode

What's next for WalkWise

  • Personalized exercise routines depending on user's step count
  • Streamline UI allowing user to see exercises directly from the application
