Inspiration

From social issues we have research from the ministry of social and family development. We noticed that people with disability have difficulties navigating around society. As such our team decided to come up with a smart cane to allow people with disability with visually impaired and mute to leverage on it.

Description

The prototype we have developed is a smart cane, which uses sensors to detect obstacles near and beep to alert the user if it's too close. In addition, we have created an app to have output an alarm if the user requires assistance.

Technologies used

We have used hardware like Arduino, raspberry pi and softwares like Arduino IDE, Raspbian OS and languages which include Python and C.

Challenges

Time constraints and limited resources

Achievements

Prototype and application which are able to integrate together to benefit the user.

Learning points

Hardware compatibility issues are the biggest takeaway, time management and most importantly valuable experience.
