Inspiration
Walking home alone from the library at night can be sketchy.
What it does
The web app allows users to form temporary walking groups to get from point A to B in a group. They can create their own walking group or join an existing walking group by entering their start and end points and their departure time.
How we built it
Started to work off of a prototyped idea at a previous ideathon. Designed website and major features. Then started grinding right into development. Angular 2 front-end with Google Maps API. NodeJS and PostgreSQL back-end.
Challenges we ran into
Angular giving us trouble when integrating the Google Maps API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finishing our front-end work in Angular. Getting APIs set up for creating a new walking group and viewing existing walking groups.
What we learned
Setting realistic requirements. Our goal was to show a demo so we focussed on major features and avoided wasting time on minor things.
What's next for Walk With Me
Partnering with a school to give their students access to Walk With Me.
