Inspiration

Crude Oil. Lease Condensate. Coalbed Methane. Shale Gas.

Long ago, the fifty states lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Texas Nation attacked. Only the avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished.

The year is 2022. The avatar has yet to return.

But I sense greatness in you, brave traveler.

Well then, shall we? My dear young avatar. You must inquire the Waku Waku, learn from the ancient texts, and know that your enemy is becoming stronger. Their power is spreading. Corruption, seething, into the other states. Deep within the secrets of the Waku Waku will you find the key to your victory. You must defeat Texas.

What it does

The Waku Waku holds knowledge beyond the grasps of this mortal realm. Only the power of the avatar can unfold its secrets--for they are the greatest mouse clicker in the world--and discover the story of how the balance of our great nation collapsed with the rise of oil and gas production. Year by year, state by state, the avatar will surely attain the enlightenment needed to stop the production power of Texas.

How we built it

The Waku Waku was never built. It was manifested. Manifested, out of necessity.

The Waku Waku is the result of countless human sacrifices (mostly hours, less so lives). However, its origins still remain a mystery, though all signs point the legendary three sages.

Some say it was created by three sages. Others say it was a gift from god himself. Non-believers say it was made with JavaScript, Bootstrap, Google Charts, and the Energy Information Administration's natural gas and crude oil production API's.

Challenges we ran into

The demons known as JavaScript and HTML were adamant in their quest of thwarting the Waku Waku. The sages, unaware of their demons' domains, fought valiantly against that strange world, and barely came out alive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The sages have only the avatar to be proud of. The chosen one who will realize the prophecy and put an end to the evil that is Texas. They're also proud that this is their first ever experience working with web apps, but that's not as important.

What we learned

The sages have learned that they must conquer their demons and be prepared for future battles against the primordial evil JavaScript.

What's next for Waku Waku

The final form of the Waku Waku is the Waku Waku Waku, an even ancient-er script with secret-er secrets. The Waku Waku is limited only to the US, whereas its final form holds knowledge of the entire world.
