Inspiration
We've all been there—smacking the snooze button, bargaining for "just five more minutes," and then rushing to start the day. Our team wanted to tackle this universal morning challenge with a playful twist. Inspired by the idea of turning waking up into an engaging experience, we envisioned a device that combines technology with a dash of fun to revolutionise the morning routine.
What it does
The Wakey-Wakey Car is your personal bedside motivator. When your alarm sounds, this spirited little car springs into action. It zooms off your nightstand, beeping cheerfully, and embarks on a short adventure around your room. The goal? To encourage you to get up and catch it, turning the act of waking up into a playful chase. It's not just an alarm; it's a game that jumpstarts your day with energy and a smile.
How we built it
We strategically built a culmination of hardware and software that includes health-sensory car, glove sensors and our "Wakey Wakey Car" website monitoring your heart rate, GSR, appointments, and health history on the go. We used the following stacks:
- Software: React.js, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Socket.io, JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS, Arundino, HTML
- Hardware: GSR sensor, Hear Rate Sensor, Arduino Uno, Motor, Buzzer, Gear Motor, Wheels, Glove
- Presentation: PowerPoint
Challenges we ran into
Developing the Wakey-Wakey Car tested our resilience as we tackled sound detection accuracy, real-time obstacle avoidance, and efficient power management. Fine-tuning signal processing, calibrating sensors, and optimisng motor control required iterative debugging and refinement. Synchronising communication between the Arduino, motor driver, and sensors demanded precise timing adjustments to minimise latency. Despite challenges, our persistence led to a robust, intelligent system that seamlessly integrates hardware and software for an innovative wake-up solution.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We take immense pride in crafting a sophisticated, intelligent wake-up system that harmoniously integrates sound detection, obstacle avoidance, and health monitoring. Refining signal processing for precise alarm recognition, optimising motor control for seamless movement, and perfecting sensor calibration exemplify our technical finesse. Overcoming challenges in power management and hardware communication underscored our resilience. Most rewarding, however, is the affirmation that the Wakey-Wakey Car transforms waking up into an engaging and effective experience.
What we learned
Through this project, we honed our expertise in sensor integration, signal processing, and real-time motion control, refining our ability to synchronise hardware and software seamlessly. We gained invaluable insight into power optimisation, ensuring efficiency without compromising performance. Debugging complex communication protocols between microcontrollers and peripherals strengthened our problem-solving acumen. Most importantly, we learned that perseverance and iterative refinement are paramount in engineering innovation, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and excellence.
What's next for Wakey Wakey Car
Next, we aim to enhance the Wakey-Wakey Car with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity for remote configuration and sleep tracking. Machine learning integration will refine sound recognition and adaptive movement, improving efficiency and responsiveness. Further power optimisations will extend battery life, while customisable designs will offer a personalised user experience. Our vision is to refine functionality, elevate usability, and establish the Wakey-Wakey Car as an innovative solution for healthier wake-up routines.
