So close yet so far

Does online communication lead to deep social connections? Or is it actually disconnecting us and displacing meaningful relationships? Do people understand that their actions online have an impact?

Our solution..

Wake up call

You are pushing my buttons!

An interactive installation (AI animation bot) that aims to teach people that your words and actions online matter

How does it work?

Say hi to Simon and Lucy, our test participants...

What is happening in Simon’s booth?

Simon is interacting with the animation bot “The banana guy” He is pressing Lucy’s buttons without her knowing. Simon’s booth receives biometric information such as heartbeat measurements from Lucy’s booth which are simultaneously connected to the animation bot - visualizing Lucy’s feelings. Simon reacts and responds to this input and the interactive game continues.

What is happening in Lucy’s booth?

During the interactive experiment Lucy is exposed to different stimulants. She is connected to a biometric sensor. These stimulants will have a direct effect on her biometric outputs, i.e. her heartbeat. Simon’s interaction with the bot in his booth, directly affects these audio and visual stimulants.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a real prototype was difficult with our teams' slightly less technical background. We didn't have time to implement every idea that we had.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to actually get a prototype working in time!

What we learned

We learned a lot about team work, rapid prototyping and biosensors (coding).

What's next for Wake up call

Who knows? Rotten bananas?
