Inspiration

There are lots of meditation apps out there and, while they do help, there isn't a direct way to connect your sessions into how you process the events of any given day. So, instead of meditating I wanted to create more of an awareness experience. Whether its an awareness of patterns you seem to run into or an awareness of the roles others play in your life, this app can help guide you to a level of realization and clarity that has not been attempted before.

What it does

You start by having simple conversations with an AI companion. After the conversation ends, it goes through a few layers of analysis and sentiment identification and is then turned into a reflective journal entry to help you keep a wellness diary of sorts. Once a journal entry has been generated, the sentiment analysis is uploaded to a mood chart and wellness dashboard so you can visualize your mood trands and gain awareness of the factors that are influencing these trends.

If nothing of significance is on your mind, you can play games with the AI companion like "Would You Rather" or even talk about a dream you had that you can't get off your mind. The point is, there is always someone there to at any time.

How we built it

This app was built in bolt.new with API integrations from Elevenlabs and Gemini. The logo was generated using canva and is also what inspired the color scheme. It is deployed on netlify and uses supabase serverless functions to call API requests.

Challenges we ran into

This is the first mobile app I ever built, but with time constraints being so tight I could not submit to an app store in time. So I had to shave off some functionality like a step-tracker and a map component with live gps guidance for a "walk and talk" feature. This is a web app only for the time being, but I do plan on making this available on mobile and for offline use.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of being able to do all of this on my own. Besides the obvious AI prompting to write the code, I really took initiative and made a product I am proud of.

What we learned

I learned a lot about software development and how necessary an app like this is. There are so many people I talked to about this project and the majority of the responses I got were unexpectedly insightful. People just want to understand themselves objectively, and people just get lonely...even in a crowded room.

What's next for WaiSAFE

Integration with maps and crime-data for safer and more insightful walks, a peer-chat feature, and a multiplayer game mode. I can see this becoming a platform people can use in an emergency situation. I live in California where there are fires and floods every year and having this app can help people find safe zones and also places to avoid thanks to all user feedback.
