Inspiration

When you think of the University of Waterloo and its students, a main persona that comes to mind is your awkward STEM kid who only watches anime and goes on Reddit during their free time. They're often complaining about being single and wanting a "waifu" or "husbando", but they don't take the initiative to meet new people. We tried to fix this problem.

What it does

It's Tinder, but for anime lovers. The user is prompted to take a photo of themselves, which will then be uploaded and paired with an anime character that looks like the user.

How we built it

We created our prototype and concept with Figma, and then built the product using Java and Python.

Challenges we ran into

Training the custom ML model was difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We accomplished a pretty good design that is pretty aesthetic, but also really cringe.

What we learned

Dating is still hard, whether you like anime or not :(

What's next for Waifu Hunter

We're probably pitching this to Dragon's Den or something, and then launching the app on iOS and Android.
