Inspiration
Our inspiration for EquaTask.ai is deeply rooted in addressing the pressing issue of unequal distribution of unpaid household tasks.This problem has profound social and economic implications, causing excessive stress , impacting mental health , and contributing to gender disparities. We are motivated by a vision of rewriting this narrative and creating a solution that promotes fairness, shared responsibility, and gender equality within households, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals 5 (Gender Equality) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). 🚀
What it does
This is an AI based household task management app. It allows everyone in the family to join from their own device to keep track of who does what. It also utilizes an equitable and unbiased algorithm to distribute tasks and ensure everyone in the family is held accountable. As well, it generates suggested subtasks to reduce the requirement of mental load.
The application wants to employ AI to analyze tasks, including both visible and often-overlooked "invisible tasks." Invisible tasks are those responsibilities that are essential but often go unnoticed, such as emotional labor, mental load, or managing the coordination of household chores.
How we built it
Our journey with EquaTask.ai began with a clear vision. We conceptualized the idea, designed innovative algorithms, and envisioned features that would redefine household management. We focused on building a prototype using Figma, demonstrating the app's potential. The project is in its early stages, and the actual development of the app is yet to come.
Challenges we ran into
During our project journey, we encountered a couple of unexpected challenges that put our teamwork and timelines to the test. Unfortunately, two of our team members had to step away due to unforeseen circumstances, which left us with fewer hands on deck. Nevertheless, as a resilient team, we rallied together and focused on delivering our minimum viable product and perfecting our pitch. Additionally, we faced some time-constraint issues while working with our app creator, Flutter. We did our best, but, regrettably, we couldn't quite crack that nut in the time available. 🕒 But hey, we'll keep learning and growing! 💪

These accomplishments inspire us to continue our journey toward developing EquaTask.ai, making it a reality, and contributing to a more equitable and gender-equal world.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the ideation and design phases of project development. As a group of two code developers, we rarely get to experience the design phases of a project. In our research, we also learned the importance of AI in regards to gender bias.
What's next for WAI 2023
After getting feedback, we want to continue developing and releasing the app itself. We believe there are greater social implications for this project and field regarding unbiased AI.
