Inspiration

In my young adulthood I worked closely with rescues and animal boarding facilities. I have always loved animals and wanted to create a game that makes a positive impact. Many animals are abandoned, injured, or left without homes, and I wanted to design a game that highlights the importance of animal rescue and adoption. This inspired me to create Wagging Tails Rescue, a simulation game where players build and manage their own animal rescue center

What it does

Players rescue homeless and injured animals, provide medical care, feed and groom them, and help them find loving forever homes. As the rescue center grows, players can expand their facilities, hire staff, unlock new animal species, and improve the quality of care they provide.

How we built it

I started by designing the core gameplay loop around rescuing, caring for, and rehoming animals. I created systems for animal health, happiness, adoption matching, facility upgrades, and staff management. The goal was to balance fun gameplay with an educational message about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges was creating gameplay that was both engaging and realistic. I wanted players to feel rewarded for helping animals while also managing the resources needed to run a successful rescue center. Another challenge was designing progression systems that kept the game interesting as the rescue expanded

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of my biggest accomplishments was creating Wagging Tails Rescue, a game concept that combines fun gameplay with a meaningful message about animal welfare. I am proud of designing a complete rescue management experience where players can care for abandoned and injured animals, expand their shelter, and help pets find loving homes. Throughout the project, I successfully developed systems for animal care, adoption, staff management, and shelter growth while balancing realism and entertainment. This project allowed me to strengthen my creativity, problem-solving, and game design skills, and I am especially proud that it encourages players to learn about the importance of animal rescue and responsible pet ownership

What we learned

Through this project, I learned more about game design, balancing gameplay systems, and creating meaningful player progression. I also gained a greater appreciation for the work that real animal rescue organizations do every day

What's next for Wagging Tails Rescue In the future, I would like to add more animal species, special rescue missions, community adoption events, volunteer management systems, and educational features that teach players about animal care and welfare
