Inspiration
Our inspiration for Wafers stemmed from the pressing issue of food waste and the realization that technology could play a significant role in combating it. We were driven by the desire to create a solution that empowers individuals to make sustainable choices effortlessly.
What it does
Wafers is a revolutionary app that utilizes OCR and machine learning to analyze receipts and evaluate the environmental impact of purchases. It provides users with personalized insights, making sustainable shopping decisions easier. Additionally, the app offers educational content on environmental impact, fostering awareness and understanding.
How we built it
We built Wafers by integrating OCR technology, machine learning algorithms, and a secure CSV database for data storage. The backend logic was formulated to facilitate receipt processing and environmental impact calculations. We also developed a user-centric design for optimal user experience and leveraged social media for outreach.
Challenges we ran into
During the development process, we encountered several challenges, including fine-tuning the OCR integration for accurate receipt analysis, optimizing machine learning algorithms for efficiency, and ensuring data security in the storage process. Additionally, designing an intuitive user interface posed its own set of challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the challenges, we're proud to have successfully implemented OCR and machine learning functionalities into the app. We also take pride in creating a seamless user experience and effectively engaging with our audience through social media outreach. Furthermore, the educational content on environmental impact has been well-received by users.
