Project Inspiration

The inspiration for our project came from the realization of the significant challenges faced by individuals with speech impairments. We recognized that these challenges extended far beyond mere communication difficulties; they affected personal relationships, professional opportunities, and emotional well-being. Witnessing the struggles faced by people with speech impairments and the gaps in existing solutions motivated us to create a meaningful impact.

Learning and Insights

Throughout the development process, we learned a great deal about the nuanced needs of individuals with speech impairments. We discovered the importance of user-centered design and how personalisation played a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of our solution. We also learned about about LLMs and RestAPIs. Moreover, learning about various speech patterns, accents, and the intricacies of communication further deepened our understanding.

Project Development

Building our project was a journey of harnessing the power of generative AI within the constraints of our development skills . We started by extensively researching existing assistive technologies and the challenges they addressed. Armed with this knowledge, we crafted a comprehensive plan that included user interface design, speech recognition and correction algorithms, and real-time transcription integration. We employed transformers to enable our application to learn and adapt to individual speech patterns, providing accurate real-time correction.

Challenges Faced

Within limited time constraints and with a severe lack of user feedback we did what we could. While the project was immensely rewarding, we encountered our fair share of challenges. One significant hurdle was maintaining the balance between real-time processing and ensuring minimal latency.
