Inspiration

Every day, big retailers' stores such as Walmart end up with extra inventory, frequently nearing expiration, and temporary storage space that is left unused. At the same time, local small and medium-sized retailers frequently lack adequate storage and are rushing to keep their shelves stocked. We're working on bridging this gap, connecting retailers with excess inventory to those who need it, and making the most of available resources. Despite the fact that they live in the same neighborhood and could support one another. This disconnect results in wasted space, wasted goods, and lost opportunities

What it does

Big retailers' excess stock and idle storage can be readily linked with immediate needs of neighborhood small retailers by using W-Connect an AI-powered, two-way platform. It maximizes the local business impact and minimizes waste by facilitating real-time access and sharing on both ends.

How we built it

We built it by clearly dividing responsibilities and collaborating through effective communication. Our team was structured with a Design Head, who crafted and implemented the front-end interface; a Technical Head, who integrated the AI algorithms seamlessly with the user interface; and a Research Head, who continuously expanded the product's capabilities by proposing and validating innovative features. We followed a coordinated workflow, held regular check-ins, and adapted based on feedback to ensure smooth development.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was to integrate our work together as it meant thoroughly understanding each other's work such that the debugging process became smoother and understandable. The naming conventions were taken close note of as each of our contributions added new features and often modified the previous code structure.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our platform has the following key features which we've built from scratch and are immensely proud of:

  1. Independent portals for big retailers (producers) and small retailers (consumers)
  2. A page for retailers to post requests or temporary storage according to demand
  3. AI matching engine (Gemini API) matches offers and requests based on priority, location, and relevance
  4. Real-time notifications and one-click accept/ignore process
  5. Transaction history tracking
  6. Automatic account updates and inactive account cleanup maintaining an active, real-time ecosystem ## What we learned We learnt the real value of good communication and have also enhanced the team spirit among us. This project also gave us an opportunity to strengthen our technical skills in several key frameworks such as React.js, providing us with a near simulation of a real business idea implementation. ## What's next for W-Connect The next step for W-Connect is to scale its core features and make it more accessible and user-friendly. We’re planning to:
  7. Enhance the AI integration by incorporating personalized recommendations and smarter matching algorithms.
  8. Expand the platform's reach by optimizing it for mobile devices and launching a beta version for early users to gather feedback.
  9. Implement user authentication and data privacy features to ensure secure, trust-based interactions.
  10. Continuously iterate based on user feedback and analytics, refining the UX and adding features that bring real value to our users. Long-term, we envision W-Connect as a go-to platform for meaningful collaboration, powered by AI and driven by community input.
