Inspiration

Finding an event is only the first step. People still need to decide whether to go, find others who want to join, and coordinate the outing. We built Vyroo around the gap between discovering something interesting and making a plan together.

What Vyroo does

Vyroo brings event discovery and social coordination into one product. People can explore events, view details, create plans, invite others, and coordinate through squads and conversations. Organizers can publish events and manage attendee workflows.

How we built it

The mobile app is built with Flutter and connects to a Django REST API. The backend manages accounts, events, plans, social features, attendance, notifications, and organizer entitlements. The website and organizer tools use Next.js.

The mobile code integrates RevenueCat for organizer offerings, purchases, and restore flows. Django processes RevenueCat webhook events and controls premium access.

Challenges

Event discovery depends on having enough useful events. During closed testing, we saw how relying only on organizers to seed a new catalogue can limit what early users find. That led us to explore surfacing events hosted elsewhere, while keeping the original source available for registration or tickets.

We also had to connect event, plan, attendance, social, and purchase state across the mobile app and backend without treating a client-side success message as proof of attendance or premium access.

What we learned

An event listing does not finish the job. The product has to help people move from “that looks interesting” to a concrete plan with other people.

What’s next

We plan to validate the discovery-to-attendance journey with users and organizers, improve local event supply, and learn which organizer tools provide enough value to support paid products.
