Inspiration
Vybaa came from a simple frustration: people set goals with good intentions, miss a few days, and then feel like they have failed. Most productivity apps only show the missed days. They dont really help you understand what happened or how to start again.
We wanted to make something that feels more like having someone in your corner.
What it does
Vybaa helps people create goals, choose how they want to make progress, check in, and reflect on what is happening over time.
When the day goes badly, users can talk it through with a Rewind partner instead of just dismissing another notification. They can look back at their conversations and progress, notice patterns, and return to a goal without being punished for missing a day.
The idea is not to pretend motivation is always there. It is to help someone understand what is getting in the way and find a realistic next step.
How we built it
We built the mobile app with React Native, Expo and TypeScript, with a cloud backend for goals, progress, conversations and user data.
We used Google Gemini for the conversational experience. The conversations are designed to use the person’s own goals, check-ins and reflections instead of giving generic motivational messages.
We also used Remotion and real app screens to create the product video, adding narration, music and sound effects so the experience could be shown properly.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest part was keeping the experience personal without making it complicated. There are a lot of small states to handle: someone changing a goal, missing a day, coming back later, correcting a check-in, or continuing a conversation.
We also had to think carefully about carrying personal context safely between the app and the cloud. AI should help someone think, but it should not make important decisions for them or pretend to know more than it does.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that Vybaa does not treat a missed day as the end of a goal. Starting again is part of the experience.
We are also proud of the Rewind flow and the way goals, conversations, reflections and progress fit together without turning the app into a complicated dashboard.
What we learned
We learned that progress is not always just a number. Sometimes it is understanding why you got stuck, being honest about how your day went, and finding one small next step.
We also learned that AI is much more useful when it has the right context and clear limits. A generic message is easy to generate, but a thoughtful response needs to be grounded in the person’s own story.
What's next for Vybaa
We want to make Vybaa better at helping people notice patterns across their goals and reflections, while keeping the experience calm and private.
Next, we are working toward deeper insights, better Rewind conversations, more flexible goal routines, and making it easier to come back after life gets messy.
You dont have to make progress alone.
