Inspiration

Modern travel platforms focus heavily on speed, deals, and trends—but often overlook the stories, heritage, and cultural depth behind destinations. We were inspired by the idea of traveling back in time, discovering places not just as locations, but as living legacies.

Vyasa&Co was born to celebrate retro journeys—heritage hotels, timeless attractions, traditional cuisine, and destinations that carry history forward.

What it does

Vyasa&Co is a discovery-first retro travel platform that helps users explore destinations through their heritage, legacy, and vintage charm.

Users can:

Discover popular retro destinations from the landing page

Search across cities, hotels, attractions, and restaurants

Explore legacy hotels with establishment history and cultural stories

Browse heritage attractions & activities by era and category

Discover traditional restaurants with cultural backgrounds

Filter content by retro theme, activity type, and budget

Navigate freely without login for a seamless browsing experience

The platform focuses on curated exploration, not bookings—keeping the experience lightweight and story-driven.

How we built it

Frontend:

Clean, intuitive UI with a retro-inspired discovery flow

Modular components for search, filters, cards, and detail pages

Sticky navigation for smooth cross-section browsing

Backend:

Structured static datasets for cities, hotels, attractions, restaurants, and flights

Unified search logic across multiple entities

Tag-based filtering system (retro / heritage / legacy)

Minimal admin content management for adding and tagging experiences

Architecture Approach:

API-independent prototype design

Static pricing and availability

Focus on data modeling and UX flow rather than transactions

Challenges we ran into

Designing a unified search that works seamlessly across different entities

Structuring data to support theme-based discovery instead of typical booking logic

Balancing a story-driven experience with performance and simplicity

Ensuring all navigation actions (search, back, refresh) worked consistently

Creating a meaningful experience without authentication or bookings

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a complete end-to-end retro travel discovery platform

Successfully shifted focus from “booking” to cultural exploration

Designed reusable data models for hotels, attractions, and restaurants

Created a clean UX that works fully in guest mode

Delivered a scalable foundation ready for real-world expansion

What we learned

Discovery-first platforms need strong data structure and tagging

Good UX can replace complexity—login and payments aren’t always required

Storytelling is just as important as functionality in travel tech

Clear separation between frontend UX and backend logic simplifies scaling

Even static datasets can feel dynamic with the right filters and flow

What's next for Vyasa&Co

Real-time data integration for hotels and flights

AI-based retro journey recommendations

User profiles and saved journeys

Location-based storytelling and audio guides

Community-driven heritage contributions
