Inspiration:
We took inspiration from the travel assistance apps built into the entertainment screens inside the trains and buses.
What it does:
We created a web application that would allow the user to connect to a totally offline network where they could interact with other users offering entertainment applications such as games and assistance such as chats with flight attendants.
How we built it:
We started the project with a brainstorm and shortly after, after consulting the Vueling team with questions, we started coding. We use Node.js, Express and SQL for the backend, and the Svelte framework and websockets for the frontend. Since the goal was a totally offline web application, we do not use any type of framework or API that requires an internet connection.
Challenges we ran into:
We as a team took on the challenge of creating this totally offline web-app that had the ability to communicate with the different passenger devices, offering them a diverse catalog of options.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
We pride ourselves on the program's interface as well as offline chat with flight attendants.
What we learned:
From basic things like knowing how to work in a team, dividing the workload and working under pressure, to more abstract programming concepts that some of the team members had not had the pleasure of working with.
What's next for VuelingBoard:
We believe that it is a simple idea with a lot of potential that allows for almost constant updating. We believe that after polishing details we could focus on finishing the games on the list and adding new ones to the catalog. Provide new and different types of offline but collaborative entertainment to users, such as a streaming service, etc.
