Inspiration The idea for VubaRide was sparked by the challenges faced by commuters traveling between Kigali and Rwanda’s provinces. Issues like long queues, unreliable transport, and the hassle of buying tickets in person made it clear that a more efficient solution was needed. Our vision was to create a platform that would simplify travel while ensuring security and convenience for all users, especially those in rural areas.
What It Does VubaRide is a mobile app that makes commuting easier by allowing users to book tickets, choose seats, and make payments via USSD directly from their phones. The app also features digital ID integration, ensuring secure and personalized travel experiences for every user.
How We Built It We used Flutter to build VubaRide, providing a consistent and smooth user experience across different platforms. The backend was developed with secure APIs for real-time ticket booking and payment processing. We also integrated digital ID verification to enhance security, making the app both convenient and trustworthy.
Challenges We Ran Into One of the main challenges was integrating various APIs, particularly those for real-time ticketing and USSD payments. Ensuring that the digital ID verification process was secure yet user-friendly was also a significant challenge. Additionally, optimizing the app to work well under different network conditions, especially in rural areas, required careful attention.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of We’re proud of successfully integrating complex features like digital ID verification and real-time ticketing into an intuitive user interface. Watching the app perform seamlessly across devices and regions was a major achievement. Most importantly, we take pride in the fact that VubaRide has the potential to significantly improve the commuting experience for people across Rwanda.
What We Learned This project taught us a great deal about designing with the user in mind, particularly when it comes to accessibility and ease of use. We gained in-depth knowledge about API integration, mobile payment systems, and digital security. Additionally, working with USSD technology provided valuable insights into developing solutions that work well even in areas with limited internet access, ensuring broad accessibility.
What's Next for VubaRide-App In the future, we plan to expand VubaRide’s services to cover more transport routes and agencies across Rwanda. We’re also considering adding features like real-time bus tracking and multilingual support to further enhance the user experience. Our ultimate goal is to make VubaRide the go-to app for public transportation across the country.
