Inspiration
Our lack of investment knowledge pushed us to create an app that would advice users how much to invest based on their income and other factors such as credit score and weekly expenses.
What it does
An android app when launched you are prompted to login using a Robin hood account (or any account that manages stocks). Once logged in, the app lets the user enter their income, expenses and credit score and based on that, the app calculates the amount of money the user could invest. The app also includes a feature that takes into account a list of preferences that the user might be interested to invest in. With this information we will generate a list of stocks that satisfy the information the user provided. In a scrolling motion the user is able to see stocks and the user can swipe left to not by the stock and right to buy the stock. This is aimed to take away the hassle of investing, by essentially providing a personalized investment portfolio to the users.
How we built it
The app was built on android studio and the language used was java.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we ran into was not being able to come up with a solid idea that we would actually be able to implement. Once we were set on the idea, we still ran into multiples challenges over the course of the project, including not knowing how to access and extract data from databases, and having to figure out the workings of android studio.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of coming up with an idea and trying our absolute best to convert it into a working product.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the different functionalities of android studio, and incorporating data with the program.
What's next for VThacks
This was our first hackathon at VTech and we are really excited to see whats in store for the upcoming hackathons. Really enjoyed and experienced a lot.
