Inspiration

For a small vendor, knowing how much money came in isn't enough. They need to know: How much did I sell today? Where did my money go? How much do I still owe on my loans? Which customers or vendors do I need to track? Am I actually making money? What needs my attention today? How is my business performing compared with previous periods?

What it does

Vridhi is an intelligent business companion built for small vendors and micro-businesses who often manage their entire business through memory, notebooks, or scattered records. The platform provides a complete business-management ecosystem: Sales & Expenses= Vendors can record daily sales and expenses and organize them by categories, products and transactions. Loans & Repayments= Users can maintain their loans, see how much has been repaid, what remains, and what repayments are due. Vridhi also provides reminders and alerts for important repayment situations. Reports & Analytics= Instead of leaving the vendor with a list of numbers, Vridhi converts their business data into graphical reports, allowing them to understand sales, expenses and financial trends more easily. Customers & Vendors= The platform also maintains dedicated customer and vendor information, helping organize the relationships behind everyday business transactions.

How we built it

We built "Vridhi" as an AI-powered business management platform designed to help small vendors manage their daily business operations in one place.

  1. Frontend Development We developed a simple, user-friendly interface that allows vendors to record sales and expenses, manage customer and vendor details, track loans and repayments, and view business analytics.
  2. Backend and Database We implemented the business logic and data management required to store transactions, maintain loan records, track repayments, and generate reports. The system organizes business data so that users can easily access their financial information.
  3. AI Business Assistant We integrated an AI assistant that helps vendors understand their business data through natural-language questions. It can provide insights into sales, expenses, remaining loan repayments, and important business activities based on the available records.
  4. Voice-Based Transaction Entry
We designed a voice interaction feature that allows vendors to speak their sales or expenses. The system processes the input and autofill the relevant transaction form, allowing the vendor to review and confirm the details before saving.
  5. Smart Alerts and Analytics We developed features to identify important business situations, including upcoming loan repayments, overdue payments, unusually high expenses, negative cash flow, and drops in sales. Reports and visualizations help vendors understand business performance over time. Our main objective was to transform traditional, manual business record-keeping into a simple, intelligent system that helps small vendors track their finances, identify problems, and make better business decisions.

Challenges we ran into

While Building Vridhi

  1. Integrating UPI Transactions Securely One of our biggest challenges was connecting Vridhi with users’ UPI transactions. Accessing transaction data and linking it securely to the application was not straightforward because transaction information must be obtained through appropriate, authorized integrations while protecting users’ financial data. We had to consider how to retrieve and organize payment information reliably.
  2. Multilingual Voice Recognition We wanted vendors to record sales and expenses simply by speaking, without manually filling in forms. However, understanding spoken inputs in multiple languages and accurately extracting details such as amounts, transaction types, and categories was challenging. We needed to consider variations in pronunciation, language mixing, and ambiguous inputs to make voice-based entry more reliable.
  3. Simplifying Financial Analytics Through Graphs Another challenge was presenting complex financial information in an easy-to-understand graphical format. Displaying sales, expenses, cash flow, and financial trends in a way that helps vendors quickly understand their business performance required careful consideration of chart types, data organization, and visual clarity. We are continuing to improve this aspect.
  4. Customizing the Application for Different Business Types Every small business operates differently. A grocery shop, a clothing store, and a street-food vendor may have different products, expense categories, transaction patterns, and reporting needs. Our goal was to make Vridhi adaptable to different business types rather than forcing every vendor to use the same structure. Designing this flexibility is still an ongoing part of our development.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud to have built Vridhi, an intelligent business companion that brings sales, expenses, loan tracking, analytics, and AI-powered assistance together in one platform. We’re especially proud of our vision to make financial management simpler, more accessible, and personalized for small business owners.

What we learned

These challenges helped us understand that building an intelligent business-management platform involves more than adding features. It requires secure financial-data access, reliable multilingual interaction, understandable analytics, and flexibility for different business needs. We are using these learnings to guide Vridhi’s continued development.

What's next for Vridhi

Our next goal is to transform Vridhi from a business-tracking application into a more intelligent, personalized business companion for small vendors.

  1. Secure UPI Integration: Explore authorized payment-data integrations to simplify transaction tracking and reduce manual data entry.
  2. Multilingual Voice Assistant: Improve speech recognition across regional languages so vendors can record sales and expenses naturally through voice. 3.*Business-Specific Personalization: Customize categories, products, expenses, and analytics based on the user's business type, whether it's a grocery shop, clothing store, or street-food stall.
  3. Smarter Financial Insights: Enhance visual dashboards and AI-powered analysis to identify sales trends, unusual expenses, cash-flow concerns, and repayment obligations. Our vision: To make financial management simpler and more accessible for every small business owner, helping them move from tracking transactions to making confident decisions and achieving sustainable growth.
