Team Information

Tav and Claire live on opposite sides of the country. Their moms wanted them to join the hackathon and so they did. They are both students at SIBE Lab Microschool. Claire likes birds and animals. She goes hiking every week to observe and sketch them. Tav builds scarecrows and is learning Unity.

Explanation of Your Idea

We thought about teachers problems with virtual school and so we came up with a virtual solution that can last a long time, even through and after pandemics. So our idea is an immersive virtual school that provides 360 degree views. Everyone will have avatars so the teacher and students can see each other and this will also help keep students engaged. Everyone spawns in a one room schoolhouse. Here the teacher can teach, make announcements, and take attendance. Along all the walls are doors and each door leads to a different world. So if a kid is interested in birds, they can go through a door to Griffth Park and observe bird behavior. Other kids might go to Mars where they can ride rovers to collect rocks and study them. Each world is like a breakout room so the teacher can spawn in and check on the groups of kids. You could even do gym class by going skiing or scuba diving.

How will your idea be implemented

To implement VR Worlds School, we first have to learn Unity. Then once we have learned how to code in VR, we have to learn how to design the worlds. Unity is free as long as we don’t make money, so we could start now. Then everyone has to buy VR headsets for all the students and the teachers. This may look simple but it was a lot of work.
