Inspiration
I always wanted to create a good videogame and bring my ideas to life.
The VR helped me in delivering them with more immersion and feeling.
It comes from a simple idea that everyone has experienced at least once: hitting the ball with a paddle to keep it from falling. From there I wondered "how can I make this more interesting?"
What it does
VR Paddle Master is a dynamic arcade experience. It provides several map where to play but It also transforms the user's room into a personalized physics playground where the goal is to juggle a ball for as long as possible using controllers or hand tracking turning the bare hand into the paddle. The game anchors Portals and Bouncers to the player's real-world walls and ceilings, demanding skill and strategic use of physics modifiers to achieve high scores.
How we built it
I've built everything on my own, I'm a programmer principaly with some experience in blender so to fasten the realization without a team I used assets from various creators on the web
Challenges we ran into
Everything was a new challenge, fun but a challenge :), the most difficult part is to balance everything and try to make the user having fun, feel the challenge but not beeing frustrated. Technically speaking it was the physics interaction between the ball and everything else.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating VR Paddle Master is an accomplishment in its own. Bringing this full game to life, delivering entertainment, and capturing player interest is a dream come true.
What we learned
Physics is hard to master
What's next for VR Paddle Master
More modifiers and challenges and "to do" to make the game more fun and challenging, different effects in game and skins to customize the ball/paddle and the enviroment. Different maps, I have some really creative ideas already like a "diorama" map. I'm also writing down the concept for multiplayer modes: coop and versus.
