Inspiration
When thinking what could use some help from the wonderful world of VR, we though _ What about Wii Bowling? People seemed to like it enough, why not just do that, but in VR?
What it does
We throw you into a mysterious world where you only have two options, _ bowling ball, or shoes? _ Pick one and try to knock down as many pins as possible.
How we built it
We used the Unity Physics engine and Oculus integration to setup the physics to allow the objects to interact so you can throw the ball, knock down pins. There's some background music to really get you into the mood of classic bowling.
Challenges we ran into
1) It took us a while to get the proper configuration for grabbing objects with the touch controllers. 2) Bowling scoring is a little more involved for us to be able to properly implement it into the game. 3) Configuring the physics engine to allow the ball to roll properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
1) Actually getting it to work properly. 2) Smooth background music. 3) Working with a technology we've never used before.
What we learned
Setting up a project for use with the Rift is fairly simple, when you know how to set it up properly. It helps to have a group of people with different skills so that each person can work on a different part of the project.
What's next for VR Bowling
1) Implement proper lanes 2) Scoring 3) Menus 4) More ball options
