Inspiration

I was a terrible at communicating and public speaking when i was younger and only fixed it in my late 20s via a combo of expensive workshops & lessons. I noticed my partner & step daughter facing the same issues so I built the app for them and for my younger self.

What it does

Become a confident speaker in just 5 minutes a day.

Each day you get 2–3 short tasks: bite-size lessons and speaking games. Practice privately with Echo, your friendly paper guide. Speak out loud, get a score, and learn one concrete thing to improve next.

How we built it

  • App: React Native with Expo and Expo Router, with a handmade cut-paper design system and Reanimated for Echo and the screen transitions.
  • Backend: Supabase for auth, the database and Edge Functions. Speech is transcribed and analyzed through the Vercel AI Gateway, and XP is calculated on the server.
  • Echo's voice: narration generated with ElevenLabs, with every line captioned.
  • RevenueCat: Vozie Pro through RevenueCat's native Paywalls.
  • OneSignal: the daily Spark push, streak-saver and win-back Journeys, and an in-app message that asks at the right moment.

Challenges we ran into

How do you help people improve a multifaceted skill like speaking while keeping it fun? Apps like Duolingo rely on questions with one right answer. Speaking has no single right answer, so I spent a lot of time building analysis for pace, pauses, filler words, confidence and structure, and turning it into feedback that feels encouraging, not like a report card. It also took a lot of effort to get the UI/UX right to not overwhelm user with options and keep everything intuitive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

My partner and stepdaughter use the app to improve their skills. We're also getting new users every day with very little marketing, only three weeks after launch.

What we learned

The first version was way too complex and tried to do too much at once. Since then, the goal has been to simplify as much as possible and make the value prop clear. Once someone practices daily, we layer in more lessons, inspiration and games.

Monetization & categories

Vozie Pro (monthly or yearly, with a 3-day free trial) unlocks the full daily plan through RevenueCat's native Paywalls. We're entering the RevenueCat Design Award, OneSignal's Keep Them Coming Back Award, and the RevenueCat Peace Prize.

What's next for Vozie: Public Speaking Coach

he app is in a good place, so my focus now is marketing and organic content. In neat future, I will add lessons and games for more advanced techniques, built on the same foundation.
