Inspiration
Planning a trip often means jumping between multiple platforms for transportation, hotels, weather, restaurants, budgets, and itineraries. We wanted to make this process simpler by bringing everything into one intelligent travel assistant.
This inspired us to build Voyanta, an AI-powered travel planner that turns a user's preferences, budget, interests, and travel requirements into a personalized travel plan.
Our goal was simple: instead of spending hours planning a trip, users should be able to describe what they want and let AI organize the journey for them.
How we built it
We built Voyanta as a full-stack web application with a React-based frontend and an AI-powered backend.
The frontend was built using React and Vite, with a component-based architecture for reusable elements such as transport, hotel, weather, budget, restaurant, and itinerary cards.
The user first enters their travel preferences, including:
- Departure and destination
- Number of days and travellers
- Budget
- Preferred transport
- Hotel preference
- Food preference
- Travel style
- Personal interests
The application then takes the user through an AI planning flow and presents the generated trip through a structured results dashboard.
Our backend team is responsible for the AI logic and API integration, while the frontend communicates with the backend to display the generated recommendations in an intuitive interface.
We also used Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was designing the application so that many different travel requirements could work together without making the interface complicated.
We also had to learn how to structure a React application using reusable components and separate pages for the home screen, planner, loading experience, and results dashboard.
Another challenge was coordinating frontend and backend development as a team. We had to design the frontend in a way that could easily accept dynamic AI-generated data instead of relying on hardcoded information.
We also encountered issues with React routing, component imports, styling, and connecting different parts of the application during development. Solving these problems helped us understand how a complete web application comes together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of building a complete travel-planning experience rather than just an AI chatbot.
Voyanta provides a complete flow:
Home → Trip Planner → AI Processing → Personalized Results
We created a modern, responsive interface with reusable React components and dedicated sections for transportation, hotels, weather, restaurants, budget, and day-wise itineraries.
We are also proud that our application is designed around the user's actual travel preferences rather than providing the same generic itinerary to everyone.
Most importantly, we transformed our initial idea into a working prototype while learning and building as a team during the hackathon.
What we learned
This project taught us how to move from an idea to a functional full-stack application.
We learned how to:
- Build and organize a React application using reusable components
- Design user-friendly interfaces for real-world applications
- Manage navigation and data flow between different pages
- Work collaboratively using Git and GitHub
- Design frontend components around dynamic backend data
- Think about how AI can be integrated into practical applications
- Debug and solve problems while developing under hackathon time constraints
We also learned that building an AI application is not just about the AI model. The user experience, data flow, frontend, backend, and integration are equally important.
What's next for Voyanta
We want Voyanta to evolve from a travel-planning prototype into a complete AI travel companion.
Future improvements include:
- Interactive maps and route optimization
- Smarter budget optimization
- Personalized recommendations based on previous trips
- Voice-based trip planning
- Multi-language support
- Real-time itinerary adjustments when plans change
Our long-term vision is for Voyanta to become an AI co-pilot that doesn't just create a travel plan, but continuously helps travelers make better decisions throughout their entire journey.
