One of the most ubiquitous experiences of anyone’s childhood is working a part-time job; an even more common experience among those who have is working at a restaurant or retail job. As a matter of fact, out of our team of four, all of us have worked in some form of service environment. Even for those who have not, interacting with businesses built on this model is routine; placing orders, purchasing goods, or relying on locations that must constantly balance inventory against unpredictable demand is simply part of the day-to-day for most business owners. These interactions reveal a recurring operational pattern: stockouts during peak demand, excess inventory that goes unused, and decisions often driven by intuition rather than real-time visibility. Our project was inspired by these gaps and the massive reach of companies like NCR Voyix. Since they manage commerce infrastructure for thousands of sites, even minor interface improvements can scale quickly. We built an inventory health dashboard that connects to platform data to track burn rates, forecast stock depletion, and flag reorders. Rather than over-complicating the math, we prioritized clarity, turning raw data into simple, actionable signals for managers. Developing this required balancing technical structure with practical restraint. We focused on building a modular frontend with clean, grid-based layouts that could easily integrate with future backends. We also looked at the business case, modeling how better inventory visibility creates recurring revenue and client loyalty by reducing waste without forcing stores to change how they fundamentally operate. The process had its hurdles. We spent a lot of time refining the layout and deciding how to handle data responsiveness to keep the tool usable. We also had to be realistic with our impact projections, ensuring our pricing and adoption models stayed grounded. The goal was to build a system deep enough for a real rollout but focused enough to fit our timeline. Ultimately, the project showed that enterprise innovation is often about making operations visible rather than replacing them. By grounding our design in lived service experience, we created a solution that offers clear, scalable benefits for both NCR Voyix and its clients.
