Inspiration
We've collectively faced lots of travel hiccups traveling in foreign countries - language barriers, last-minute cancellations, stressful navigation of local customs. This is exacerbated for some of our parents who are less technologically savvy, and leads to wasted time, money and emotional frustration.
What we've built
We've built Voxie - your personalised AI concierge for travel. Once it has created or imported your travel itinerary, the agent will react to your environment in real time. It can provide navigation information, tell you about local sightseeing and history, and recommend local restaurants and events. What's more, it can detect when your bookings have been cancelled, and call restaurants directly on your behalf to secure a replacement reservation!
How we built it
Voxie is based on next.js and Python.
We built the core voice agent via ElevenLabs hooked up into Twilio.
Our integration layer is done via Make, which draws on webhooks from Gmail, Apple etc.
We built and designed the project with the support of Cursor, Lovable and Figma.
Challenges we ran into
Building with Elevenlabs has been super powerful, however we struggled with some bugs using the API and connecting with Twilio to get the agent up and running. In addition, we recognise the immense potential of hooking up with additional services such as Uber to book taxis etc., but had to cut back on scope for what's feasible within 24 hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building an agent that can call restaurants in Mandarin to confirm / adjust a booking, and deliver a live transcript back to the user front-end!
What we learned
How to build voice and call-based agents, as well as how to accelerate the prototyping process using tool such as Lovable!
What's next for Voxie
We think Voxie has tremendous potential - the travel agent market is £470B, and personalised assistants will be the future of guided travel.
There are multiple revenue models available - weekly passes (comparable to a local guide!), affiliate and referrals, as well as eventual ad networks.
We'd like to
- Expand the agentic capability to handle additional features such as emergency support
- Expand across the full lifecycle of travel, getting planning, payments and affiliates right
- Eventually build in social features and go viral : )
