Over the past few months, our team has been very active on social media and has witnessed the constant pull for people to vote. We didn't understand the importance until we decided to do some own personal research. There are a lot of factor individuals must consider before casting a vote on a representative, and we want to be the bridge between encouraging the citizens to learn more about this advantage and building a better country.
What it does
Our website walks viewers through the importance of voting, teaches more about the backgrounds behind each presidential and vice-presidential candidate, and lists ways in which people can vote. Our website is made in the highest-level so citizens are able to understand the importance quickly but efficiently.
How I built it
We used HTML/CSS to code the interface of our website. We made sure to include a color scheme (red and blue) to resemble the honorary colors of our flag. Additionally, we used an animation as a visual representation of how voting takes place. Finally, we embedded links throughout images and text to link more resources for user experience.
Challenges I ran into
We were unknowledgeable about voting and it's systems before today. We wanted to use this as a learning opportunity for ourselves as well as our viewers. In order to do this, we spent hours researching until we found trusted links for public use.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of the general achievement of building our first website. We all met in our C.S class this year and wanted to take on this challenge as a bonding experience. We were able to communicate effectively while still managing to keep the regular, engaging conversation going throughout all of it. We're all beginners, and this was our first hackathon. It's insane to see how much we were able to do in a matter of hours.
What I learned
We can all proudly say we learned to vote, and of course work as a team. As someone who's just started out in C.S, something I'm afraid of is criticism. Working with a team of like-minded individuals propelled me to just speak up and capitalize on my ideas, because it might be our best shot at an amazing web application. After today, I can also admit that I've become better at leading my team. Organization and management are some things that I continuously find myself struggling with, but the motivation from my teammates propelled me to step in and take charge when I realized we were slacking.
What's next for Voting Made Easy
Reach as many citizens as possible nationwide. A lot of false information continues to be spread regarding politics and we want to ensure true and helpful information to those who are voting for the first time, and those who are just curious to learn how it works. Like us.
