Inspiration
Voting is an empowering tool for any group of people...particularly minorities. Our mission was to help LGBTQ in any jurisdiction make good decisions when voting for candidates.
What it does
Based on simple questions, we match voters up with the best candidates.
How we built it
We used React to build our product.
Challenges we ran into
A lot of data is required and we were unable to curate any data for the hackathon. We are focusing on the national presidential election for our project but ultimately, we would hope that all candidates on the local slate would be represented in the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We had to pull together at the last minute. We all work for a start-up, so it was difficult to get time for working on this project. We're proud that we were able to get a submission completed by the deadline!
What we learned
Election rules are very complex. It is difficult to identify all candidates that might be on a given voter's slate. This may require the user to provide their exact physical address -- which may also discourage people from using the app in some countries.
What's next for Slate
Obtain candidate data and begin to build a political-position database.
