Desire to Build Something!

What it does

Chaos Twin is an autonomous resilience engineering system with two workflows: Proactive: It tests code against failure scenarios such as delays, duplicate requests, and concurrent operations before deployment. Reactive: It responds to incidents detected in running applications, creating issues and initiating an investigation. GitLab Duo investigates failures, works on fixes, and adds regression tests. GitLab CI/CD verifies the changes, and Google Cloud Run hosts the application.

How I built it

I used GitLab Duo Agent Platform to define the investigation and repair workflows, and GitLab CI/CD to run tests and verify changes. I connected the pipeline to Google Cloud Run using Workload Identity Federation. For the demonstration, I used Voteley, an open-source live polling application, as the system under test.

Challenges I ran into

First, Cloud Run gave me headache with configuration, but there is first time for everything and I learnt a lot.

Blocking Pipelines due to false positives and false negatives caused slow development, The hardest part was connecting the pieces into a reliable workflow. A detected failure needed enough context for Duo to investigate, while generated changes needed tests and pipeline checks before they could be trusted.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I brought proactive testing and reactive incident response into one workflow, using a real application to demonstrate how a failure can lead to investigation, repair, and verification. I’m also proud of connecting GitLab CI/CD to Cloud Run through Workload Identity Federation and building safeguards around what the agent can change.

What I learned

How to use almost all Gitlab features, from AI, Pipelines( I'm used to Jenkins), Monitor, Flows,Duo,Agents and more, it was an experience, took me 7 days to figure out things while juggling work as well.

What's next for Chaos Twin

Judges,

I hope and wish for the best, I didn't get enough time to prepare but I have done as much as one person could do, I was helped most by Duo and Claude to fasten things.
