Inspiration

Having to decide between two important things or options is never easy, especially when these two things are really important to you. Thus, our team decided to create VoteIt, a voting platform that makes deciding easy, fun, and interesting.

What it does

It helps people make decisions by setting polls for people to answer. Anyone can put a question of their choice or vote for specific options for other people to choose. The people who had asked the question see other people’s votes to their question and can gain assistance making that decision. This can make people’s days more exciting and people can be able to make their decisions with more ease.

How we built it

Our team used HTML, CSS, and JS for the final product, Java for a prototype, and C++ for a prototype as well.

Challenges we ran into

We had run into many problems in the prototyping stage since there were many things we didn’t take into account and were not able to implement in the website. The prototype in Java and C++ was quite different from what was the final product and that took some time to convert and comprehend. We ran into problems with communication which resulted in more people doing work than others and confusion.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to finish our project before the deadline and see the final product successfully. Also, we’re proud that our hard work and perseverance paid off in the end.

What we learned

We learned how to build WebApps using Html, CSS, and JavaScript. We learned how to work under a time limit and also learned a lot in the workshops. Topics like neural networks and the CTF were all great and interesting things to learn about.

What's next for VoteIt GunnHacks Project 2021

We may enhance this further and do more things that we were not able to do in the time limit, for example putting this onto the cloud for large usage. Also enhancing some things that we weren’t able to enhance, make some better looking pages, and creating a more diverse website in general.
