Inspiration: Growing up, I always dreamed of making a difference in the world. But life had other plans. Tragedy struck when I saw orphans suffering in an orphanage, leaving me feeling hopeless and alone. But despite that they are still optimistic. It was during this dark time that I realized the power of volunteering and how it can change lives, including my own.
What it does: Volunteerhub is more than just a platform; it's a lifeline for struggling nonprofits and volunteers alike. It connects individuals with opportunities to give back, reigniting hope and purpose in their lives.
How we built it:
Volunteerhub is a comprehensive platform that facilitates seamless interaction between volunteers and nonprofit administrators. For volunteers, the website provides a straightforward enrollment process with a login page and sign-up option fortified with 2FA for security. Once enrolled, volunteers can easily view available projects, submit comments for ongoing feedback, and manage their activities through a calendar view, RSVP functionality, and QR code attendance tracking similar to IS1128. Furthermore, volunteers can request certificates based on confirmed attendance or hours logged, with automation for certificate emailing. Nonprofit administrators benefit from a dedicated admin page, allowing them to manage projects, activities, and participant lists efficiently. Additionally, the platform offers features for organizations to partner on projects, with options for manual or government validation of organizations. With a user-friendly interface and robust functionality, Volunteerhub streamlines volunteer management processes for both volunteers and nonprofit administrators alike. Challenges we ran into: The journey wasn't easy. We faced numerous challenges, from technical hurdles to time constraints, especially when the project is due in 2 weeks. But with perseverance and a belief in our mission, we overcame each obstacle that stood in our way.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Despite the odds, we deployed Volunteerhub, bringing our dream to life. Seeing the impact it has on individuals and organizations fills us with pride and reaffirms our commitment to making a difference.
What we learned: Through this experience, we learned the true meaning of resilience and community. We discovered that even in the darkest of times, there is light to be found when people come together for a common cause. We have learnt how to implement server side rendering and use different types of framework. On top of that we have learn to collaborate and the value of teamwork and version control.
What's next for Volunteerhub: Our journey is far from over. We aim to continuously improve Volunteerhub, expanding its reach and impact to empower even more individuals to create positive change in the world. On top of that, we will optimise our website to overcome financial constraints and implement it in a practical aspect. Hopefully, we can work on features like funding and donations.Together, we can turn every sob story into a tale of triumph and hope.
