Inspiration

At RPI there are tons of people doing great philanthropic work, but when you're in need of this help, how do you find it? The RPI Union has been looking for a solution, and we have it!

What it does

We created a site and simple API to _ POST _ events so they can be found by others. In the future points will be earned based on the number of check ins at a location to encourage competition.

How I built it

Our team used an unconventional stack. We used PHP and MySQL for the entire backend. SLIM, a php framework does our routing and handles the API requests, and Angular does work on the front end.

Challenges I ran into

This unconventional tech stack

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

It actually works and we created a RESTful service!

What I learned

While not easy, it's fun to get things to work together in new and unintended ways. Our outcome was decently eloquent and surprisingly powerful!

What's next for Volunteer RPI

Gamification, check ins, more robust API, and refine the code
