Inspiration

For the average user, smartphones are easy and intuitive to use. But for a blind, visually impaired, or otherwise disabled person, it is difficult and near-impossible to learn, remember and use the various apps and functions of their smartphone. The Onvego team decided to build a uniform environment for visually impaired smartphone users, offering the first completely Screen-Free platform for users.

How it works

This platform is operated via a unique voice user interface (VUI) based on speech and audio technologies. This platform offers the functions of a normal phone (calls, text messages, etc.) and various other functions and applications that have become inseparable from the modern smartphone (calculator, calendar, email, games, etc.). Using voice controls and feedback, as well as some simple swipes, the user can navigate through the available functions, making full use of their phone's capabilities. Our platform also offers a unique API for third-party developers to create and add further applications made for the VoiSee platform.

Our Goals

Our goal is to become the app store for the blind and visually-impaired community in which third parties can easily develop and integrate applications under a unified VUI. Currently our platform is operated using a set list of controls and voice commands. However, as more applications and functions are added, the platform becomes a maze, and remembering all the specific voice commands becomes a challenge. We are working to create a much more intuitive system, adding the option of free-speech conversation. We hope to accomplish this with the help of IBM's technology.
