Inspiration
At our school, we've faced many instances of racism and discrimination. However, with fear of humiliation, threats, embarrassment, and more, it made it hard to feel like our school was a safe environment where we could voice our concerns.
What it does
Due to problems at our own school as well as many others across the country, we've created VoiceSpace to allow students to anonymously report instances of abuse, harassment, discrimination, and more to teachers and administrators.
How we built it
Our system is simple yet great for the purposes and functions needed. We used Python paired with the tool, Streamlit, to make an easy-to-see and simple frontend. For the Backend, we used Firebase to help store the complaints collected.
What's next for VoiceSpace
One of our team's wishes that we most definitely want to see through is having this implemented as a school-wide system. Currently, a teacher/administrator account is set up to receive complaints. A student has to select a specific account to send a complaint to anonymously. We plan to have an entire school register with the app separately and to have administrator/teacher accounts under it. We also plan to expand outside of just schools; this app can be used to tackle discrimination at workplaces, sports teams, or any group of people.
