Inspiration
Our inspiration stems from the desire to enhance the capabilities of smart home systems through a voice AI chatbot. Living with an Alexa Echo Dot, we frequently ponder its untapped potential beyond its pre-programmed knowledge. We envision a future where smart home devices become even more versatile and helpful.
What it does
Our VoiceGBT AI chatbot for smart home systems is designed to transform your Alexa Echo Dot into a true household assistant. It goes beyond pre-programmed knowledge by integrating advanced AI capabilities. VoiceGBT can understand and respond to natural language voice commands, control various smart home devices, provide personalized recommendations, answer questions, and even engage in casual conversations to enhance the overall smart home experience.
How we built it
We use the Llama 2 model and start with a website version of our VoiceGBT. This platform enables users to interact with VoiceGBT by simply speaking into their microphone, asking questions, and receiving audio responses from our AI chatbot.
Challenges we ran into
We encountered a couple of challenges along the way. Initially, we explored the possibility of using AI APIs, but we struggled to find a suitable free option. Fortunately, with the guidance of our mentor, we identified a free AI model that met our needs. However, we faced challenges setting up Llama 2 on Windows, especially regarding library and dependency installation. Additionally, time constraints posed a significant challenge for us. Given the limited timeframe, we faced the constant wish for more hours to fully realize our project's potential.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the time constraints, we take pride in the sheer dedication and hard work we poured into this project over just two days. Our efforts encompassed extensive market and technical research, successfully integrating the appropriate AI model, and much more.
What we learned
Our journey with VoiceGBT was not only productive but also a fun learning experience. We deepened our knowledge of AI, delving into voice cloning techniques and gaining insights into the development tools utilized in AI projects.
What's next for VoiceGBT
Looking ahead, our vision for VoiceGBT includes expanding beyond the website interface. We aim to incorporate hardware components to further enhance its capabilities once the initial web-based platform is complete.
